Women in STEM – Inspiring Leaders Changing the World One Innovation At A Time

From left to right, Marie Curie, Maria Goeppert-Mayer, Lene Hau.

Let’s cut to the chase, shall we? Women in STEM are powerhouse leaders who are responsible for some of the most earth-shattering developments in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Whether they hail from academia, work within photonics/optics, or are on the frontlines of medical research, women have made a monumental name for themselves in this (still) male-dominated field.

The best part?

Even though women are still disproportioned in the STEM workforce, the increase of women's representation and leveraging their voices as leaders inevitably sparked a continuous rise of women earning STEM degrees. Since 2019, there are more than 6.3M women scientists and engineers in the EU, accounting for 43% of the total STEM employment. And here at Stensborg, we take pride in supporting that long-overdue diversity and equality push.

Levelling the Playing Field – Women in STEM Today

Today, the number of women in STEM has strongly gained traction, and it only continues to thrive thanks to the market finally shifting. Between companies like ours boosting women in STEM representation and leaders like you inspiring future generations to pursue their dreams, it caused a massive barrier-breaking ripple effect – a barrier that should have never been there in the first place.

Because let’s face it. Women offer so much fundamental value to the STEM sphere and are proving that every day. The world is heading into a fourth industrial revolution that will blur the lines between digital and physical realities, and the only want to be prepared for that upcoming change is to be as inclusive and integrative as possible. In short, without women in STEM, we only have half the brainpower, half the passion, and ultimately, half the innovative potential.

Transforming STEM Leadership Culture

Inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunity are the heart of what our Stensborg team is all about. In fact, much of our research and ground-breaking integrations have come from our wonderful crew of female change-makers in STEM. Overall, we have several female student assistants, operating both inside and outside the lab, our sales and marketing team are 90% female; we recently hired a new Sales Engineer named Asmae Dahrabou.

Originally from Morocco, Asmae has a PhD in Geomechanics and Geothermics and two master’s degrees in General Engineering and Reservoir Engineering, and Petroleum Geosciences. At Stensborg, she collaborates with researchers within the academic community and private and government labs involved with advanced optics and nanoimprinted surface structures – all in a driven effort to inspire and help bring newfound research ideas to life.

In the end, the photonics/optics successes and innovative richness here at Stensborg would not be nearly as disruptive if it wasn’t for our empowering women in STEM team. From seasoned professionals to rising ones, these influential and futuristic leaders are the backbone of what we strive and stand for as a company, and it is about time they gain the global representation, respect, and appreciation they deserve.
